(Hollywoodreporter)Katherine Jackson, the mother ofMichael Jackson, is speaking out on the family feud that saw her nephew file a missing person’s report and a judge suspending the matriarch’s custody of her late son’s three children.
“I am devastated that while I’ve been away, my grandchildren have been taken away from me, and I’m coming home,” she toldABC News in an interview that will air Wednesday night on Nightline.
The drama arose amid a dispute of Michael’s estate. In an undated letter released last week, five of Katherine’s children, includingJermaine and Janet Jackson, signed a statement attacking the executors of their brother Michael’s estate for taking advantage of their mother. The letter alleges that the late King of Pop’s will, which left his enormous fortune to his mother, his three children, and charity, was a fake.
On Saturday, Katherine’s nephew, Trent, filed a missing person’s report, saying he was concerned that she had not been heard from in a week. Paris Jackson, Michael’s daughter, confirmed her grandmother was missing on Twitter and provided a phone number for someone to call if they saw Katherine.
On Sunday, authorities reported that Katherine had been located in Arizona with her daughter Rebbie. Jermaine tweeted that she was there under doctor’s orders to de-stress following a mini-stroke.
The next day, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were summoned to Katherine’s home in Calabasas, Calif., on reports of a fight involving several family members.
In the latest development, a judge on Wednesday reportedly suspended Katherine’s guardianship over Paris and her brothers, Prince Michael and Blanket, due to the fact that she has been in Arizona for several days and has not been in touch with the children. Tito Jackson’s son, TJ, was appointed as their temporary guardian. Katherine’s lawyer said he plans to file a motion to reinstate her as guardian upon her return to Los Angeles.
For her part, Katherine told ABC News that the court ruling is “based on a bunch of lies.” She said she visited the Miraval Resort & Spa while in Arizona for a “short vacation and rest.”
She also said she hadn’t spoken with her grandchildren while there because she didn’t have her phone on her, preferring not to receive calls while in Arizona.
Katherine added that she plans to return to her home Wednesday.
“There are rumors going around about me that I have been kidnapped,” she said. “I am here today to let everybody to know that I am good and fine.”
Nightline airs at 11:35 p.m. More of the interview will air Thursday morning on ABC’s Good Morning America.
