Cher angers Gay Fans after praising Joel Osteen

Longtime gay icon Cher got into an emotional Twitter exchange with followers Monday after she enthusiastically tweeted about megachurch pastor Joel Osteen who has said on several occasions that he believes being gay is a sin.

She tweeted: ‘I love Joel Osteen, he’s example of Christian! He makes everyone feel welcome to his church no matter who they  are! First book like this I ever bought. I know this sounds CRAZY Coming From ME, but he’s cool, upbeat, wants you to have fun, he’s funny and not preachy! Don’t care if people think I’m uncool!’

It’s not clear if Cher, the mother of transgender activist Chaz Bono, was aware of Osteen comments on homosexuality. Earlier this year he said on Fox News Sunday: ‘I believe the Scripture says that being gay is a sin.’

He added: ‘People say, well, you are a gay hater and you’re a gay basher. I’m not. I don’t dislike anybody. Gays are some of the nicest, kindest, most loving people in the world. But my faith is based on what I believe the Scripture says, and that’s the way I read the Scripture.”

He also said: ‘I’m not for gay marriage, but I’m not for discriminating against people.’

In response to a tweet she received after praising Osteen which said ‘he’s uncool about gays,’ Cher wrote: ‘But I’M NOT! Proved this my WHOLE LIFE! We have a BOND! Christians have hard time, but WE COULD HELP CHANGE THIS.’

Then in a series of tweets, the Oscar, Grammy and Emmy winning superstar seemed hurt that anyone would question her loyalty to her gay fans.

‘Gay people have stayed with me through 40 years when everyone else left! If I broke our bond and you have no love for me anymore this is my last text. You have been my best friends! My heart has broken MANY times because I’ve lost one of  you! I have sat with you until last your LAST BREATH! I will ALWAYS LUV U.’
